John Moscatelli, APR, Fellow PRSA
 John Moscatelli a senior counselor for Anne Klein Communications Group, LLC. He previously served 10 years as the firm's senior vice president and chief operating officer.
Prior to joining AKCG in 2001, John spent 15 years with Earle Palmer Brown Public Relations, Philadelphia, where he served as senior vice president and associate general manager.
John has an extensive background in crisis communications, media relations, product publicity and promotion, community relations, internal communications, spokesperson training and video production, and is an accomplished speech and script writer. He has been intimately involved in strategic communications planning for major acquisitions, mergers and divestitures, relocations of corporate headquarters, and internal and external communications for major corporate structure changes.
His areas of experience include healthcare and healthcare information systems, natural gas and water utilities, chemicals manufacturing, building products, banking, property and casualty insurance, real property mass reappraisals, telecommunications and the nonprofit arena.
John also is experienced in developing new product and service introductions, such as the grand opening of Filene’s Basement in Center City Philadelphia; premiering IncrEdibles, a comfort convenience food; debuting BeyondBooks.com, an online provider of course-relevant educational content for secondary schools; announcing the launch of the first new U.S. daily newspaper of the millennium, Metro, in Philadelphia; and promoting the grand opening of the Kvaerner Philadelphia shipyard, the first shipyard to be built in the United States in 30 years.
Prior to joining Earle Palmer Brown, John completed a career as a U.S. Air Force public affairs officer. Among his assignments, John was an advertising and publicity officer with the USAF Recruiting Service, managed communications for the Installation Restoration Program for Tactical Air Command nationwide (the Defense Department’s version of the Superfund), and served as the Defense Department on-scene spokesman for the joint task force dispatched to Guyana to recover the remains of U.S. citizens following the Jonestown mass suicide.
Among his many notable achievements, the New Jersey chapter of the the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) named John its 2010 PR Professional of the Year. From the Philadelphia chapter of PRSA, John received the Frank X. Long award for Excellence in Writing in 2009; the Anthony Fulginiti award for Outstanding Contributions to Education in 2004, recognizing his commitment to the public relations profession through teaching and shaping the careers of future professionals; and the Maxine Elkin award for Public Relations Excellence in 2002, honoring his leadership, professionalism, integrity, volunteerism, creativity and commitment.
John has won two Bronze Anvil awards from PRSA, and more than a dozen Pepperpot Awards from the Philadelphia chapter. He also has won an Epic Award from the International Association of Business Communicators' Philadelphia chapter, and an Eastern Pennsylvania Better Business award. Print ads created for his clients have won six Addy awards from the Philadelphia Ad Club.
John is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America and PRSA's Counselors Academy, a member of PRSA’s College of Fellows and past president of PRSA's Philadelphia chapter. An adjunct professor with the Rowan University School of Communications, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in history from Philadelphia’s St. Joseph’s University.
John serves on the Board of Managers of Travelers Aid Family Services Philadelphia, and is an associate member of the Pen & Pencil Club. John’s article, “IRS Reporting Requirements for Nonprofits Seek Greater Transparency, Accountability,” discussing new Internal Revenue Service reporting requirements for nonprofits, appeared in Directors & Boards e-briefing (May 2010). A similar article, "Details, Details," tailored to focus on hospital community benefit reporting issues and the IRS, ran in Inside Healthcare (February 2010). John was featured in a full-page interview on public relations writing, “Write Away,” in PR Tactics (February 2010). His public relations advice for school administrators is encapsulated in a Q&A passage, “How Schools and Businesses Can Work Together,” featured in the textbook, School Public Relations for Student Success (2009). He is a contributor to both PR News’ Best/Worst PR Advice Guidebook (2008), and Practical Public Relations, Theories & Practices That Make a Difference (2005). |
